Getting ready for spring.

That last post just makes the new planters sound boring.

Disco Ballin'

I've posted about the house across the street before and it's ongoing renovation. Supposedly, it was Moody's house and the first house on the block. Well it seems like it makes a good spot for a rap video too! When the corner started drawing a crowd ODB and I had to go see what's up. Some one said it was GMGB. ODB seemed to like it though and even raised the roof a couple times.

The neighbors

Coming here from the Church Hill area, we have many friends in the area and still like to follow the neighborhood news. Now it looks like Bill has given us a spot of our own for news and info on our side of the block. Stop on by and say hello.

Backyard

I know, I know, I said basement. But when 400 lb. Holly's are dropped in your back yard with another load of slate even the Irish festival gets canned. I wish I had pictures of them before we planted them. The root ball were huge it took all the two of us had to get them in the ground.

The Cherry in bloom.

Patio with new giant shrubs.

Before.

After.

Another pile of slate.

ODB likes soccer.

ODB & Sierra are fast friends.

Still ready for take off

I've posted before that the area closest to us, Manchester, is on the edge of revitalization. Two years ago people were forecasting three to five years away. While a lot of the area has improved greatly, another article in the TD is still predicting three to five years. It seems we are STILL coming back strong. There is also a good slide show that goes with the article. With a lot of the focus being on Church Hill, Jackson Ward and Oregon Hill, I can't help but think it's only a matter of time.

Delivery guy shows up...
Dumb Ass Delivery Guy: Oh. I didn't expect a white person to answer the door.
Me: Well, I didn't expect a dumb ass 30 year old to deliver my pizza.

Did that noise come from the basement?

Ahhh…the memories. Last year at this time we didn’t even have walls in this house and we were getting ready to host Christmas. You know you have something special when your six month pregnant wife is helping you hang drywall. We haven’t done much to the house since Christmas. It's taken us a year to even want to after last year. We got the babies room ready and worked like crazy in the yard. With most of the outside finished, winter here again and ODB now nine months older,

it’s time to direct focus back on the inside of the house starting with the basement and the master bedroom. All I can say right now is that in January we are renting another dumpster for the basement.

It’s gruesome. We’ll tell you more about it as we get into it.

On a recent Saturday morning Cami Beghou, 13, pushed the right side of the tall, white bookcase that is built into one of the powder-pink walls in her bedroom. Continue--

Ernesto

Ernesto came and went for us. We had two pieces of siding fly off (pictures to come) that were right under the gutter on the side of the house but for the most part we came out alright. Some others in town were not as lucky. Battery Park filled up like a bowl. The basement (surprisingly) did alright and thank goodness for our new roof. It held up like a dream!

None of this was necessary

Jurors yesterday heard a mans matter-of-fact confession, detailing his role in the brutal Harvey family killings on New Year's Day. The Harvey's lived just a few blocks away us. As much as we stick out in this neighborhood renovating this place, the fact that it was just by random chance, did and still scares the hell out of us.
Remembering the Harvey's.

They're Here

Since we bought our house, this thing has been the eye sore of the neighborhood. It now looks like they are cleaning it out. Rumor has it it was the first house on the block somewhere in the early 1900's. It has since been split into three apartments and no one has lived in it since the inside burnt out.
